Fly! Mixed Media & Genuinely Jane Studios

Happy Tuesday! Today is my first post over at Genuinely Jane Studios
as a Design Team member. I am so excited to be there and very excited to share my project with you as well...

Once upon a time there was an old discarded canvas... and when it thought its time had come and it would no longer be... it found itself on my desk!

I started my covering the canvas in a layer of gesso. You can see where I pulled off the paper that was on the canvas. In the lower left you see the gesso... I covered the whole canvas.

Once the gesso dried I painted it with my Behr paint. It is a sample of the color that I am using in my bathroom renovation. I am creating this canvas for my bathroom...

Next time for a little Tim Holtz Tissue Paper and Creative Inspirations Paint...
...and some more Creative Inspirations, some Stampendous Mica Fragments, an altered zipper...

I decided that I wasn't feeling the bright yellow and orange butterfly. I brushed over it with more of the Behr Paint.. I then used the accent color I am using in my bathroom and dry brushed some of it on to the canvas... and then for the inspirational saying..

My little birdie was also painted with the accent color from my bathroom. Once the paint dried and covered with Tim Holtz Crackle paint in Rock Candy. This little birdie came from the Genuinely Jane Studios Bird Book.

...and then he got a nest full of Prima Flowers and other embellishments.

...and waa-laa!

...a little mixed media... AWESOME!

Today I have a layout packed with all kinds of mixed media yumminess! Here is just a sneak peak as to what to come in this post...
The background paper is Heidi Swapp Specialty Cardstock that I inked up with various Color Shine sprays... I think this is one of my favorite spray inks!

I used Pearlized Fragments from Stampendous for the black strip you see... I painted the black paint and then covered with a thin layer of Glossy Accents. While it's still wet you want to sprinkle the fragments on to it. Once it dried I went over it with another thin layer of Glossy Accents.

The purple polka dots were created with a stencil I made out of a piece of thick chipboard that held embellishments and a mixture of Modeling Paste and Acrylic Paint.

Now for some embellishing...

I made these using beer bottle caps
I flatten them with a hammer...

Then painted them with Black Paint & Glossy Accents... while the were still wet I sprinkled some Distress Glitter on to them.

I  then adhered my photo....and this is where the problem started.. I had all this and then got stuck on the layout! That is a horrible feeling... So I started surfing my fave blogs for inspiration and came across a PageMaps challenge:

...and this is what I came up with...

I am very very happy with my layout. I had so much fun creating it!
Until next time... wishing you a creative and happy day!
