Beautiful Friends... and lots of ink!

Happy Sunday my creative loves. Today I have a layout to share that I had so much fun creating. It is full of color, stamping, and mixed media goodness. I love all the texture throughout as well. 

I started with a 12 x 12 piece of paper that I cut down to 11 x 8.5. I knew I was using one of the Project Life page protectors from the awesome variety pack. The paper line I am using is Basic Grey Serenade.

I then laid my Prima stencil over the whole background.

Using Thick Gesso I stenciled random parts of the background. I then went in and added various spray inks and used water in a mini mister to blend a bit. The, using another stencil I added the arrow accents. 

Using one of my favorite stamps from 100 Proof Press, the honeycomb pattern, I stamped throughout the layout. 

The letters were a white color-able alphabet that I inked up.  

The flowers were scraps that I cut in a spiral and the rolled up into the flower shape you see here. I then just inked the top to add a little color.

I took strips of burlap and painted them with Gesso and sprayed them with ink. Absolutely love the texture this adds to the layout! 

The dragonfly was stamped on canvas that I also sprayed with ink.  

Here you see more of the burlap and the honeycomb stamping. 

I took the white twine and ran it through the excess mist on my mat to add a little color, and not to waste my precious ink, and then wrapped it up and glued it down. 

You see that I just stamped the Honeycomb over the stenciling and inked surfaces. 

I added a little journaling to go with my title. 

I am very happy with how it turned out. I love the memory that I captured and love all the colors and textures that are throughout the layout.

A & C - Mixed Media/Course Texture Gel

Good Morning Lovelies. Today I have a layout that documents a friendship that is very dear to me. It is filled with inky goodness and love. 

I started with the background paper. I chose this because of Alan. It reminded me of him. What is funny is he came over one day and saw the start of the layout on my table. He commented on how much he loved "that paper"! I told him, "Good! It's a layout about you!". 

Once the background was chosen, I inked the edges with Distress Ink. ...and then the mixed media fun started: 

I used "Coarse Texture Gel" medium and brushed it on and then misted with Dylusions Spray Ink. Once it was dried, I added the purple with Gelatos.

Once everything was dried, I played with the layout arrangement. Deciding on tags for jounaling, I pulled out two manilla tags and started inking them up with Distress Ink. A little jounaling and metal embellishments, and I was happy with it. 

"Est. May 26, 2012" -That was the night we met. It was at my 10 year reunion. 

Cue more inky madness now: 

The "A" and "C" are manilla letters from Fancy Pants Designs. Using Distress Ink, I inked them up and then stamped the map design that you see. The Flourishes were also stamped. I then inked the edges with Distress Paint. 

The ampersand was just a white, glittery thing.. I stamped the map design on it and inked the edges with Distress Ink and a little bit of Distress Paint. 

The other papers used are scraps from my scrap drawers and a piece of Mesh Ribbon. The two scraps on the right are from all my other New Year's Eve Layouts. The diamond pattern was stenciled on with Multi-Medium and the glittered up! 

I was very happy with how this layout turned out. I enjoyed creating it and thinking about and reliving all the memories I have with my precious friend.

Coming Back...

Hello Lovelies... I am sorry I have been gone for so long. I have been creating though! I have lots to share and can't wait to share all I have done. Here is a sneak peak as to what is coming!

"The Promise" (Scrapping to Help Heal)

Today I have a very personal layout and post to share. I went back and forth on whether or not to share this layout and the meaning with you, but in the end I chose to because the love of scrapbooking, the art of documenting our lives, memories, loved ones, is something we all share. 
The past several years have been very tough. There have been good times, but mostly it has been a low. Life knocked me down. I lost a lot of me and even my desire and passion to create. I am slowly healing. Time is the healer of all things. We all go through tough times, loss of loved ones, loss of jobs, loss of marriages or significant others. We all hurt and have hurt at some point in our lives and will hurt again. It is how we handle that hurt and pain that is what matters. Will we allow it to rule us or shape us? Sometimes it rules us until we wake up and realize we are not define by that suffering, but instead there is a lesson to be learned and we can become better for what we have gone through. 

This layout was inspired by one of my most favorite songs right now. I was hurt recently by someone. I was hurt because I had feelings for them and I was hurt by what they did. It also hurt because it ripped open a scar from the past few years and all those emotions came flooding back. Though this person was in my life for a very short time the hurt would not go away. I couldn't figure it out. I knew better but sometimes what you feel trumps what you know. No matter how logical knowing is and how illogical your feelings are. 


As I was listening to this song one evening, I was all the sudden so inspired and went into my studio and just started creating. Slowly, as I was picking out that perfect piece of paper, painting, writing, and creating... the pain slipped away. I was no longer hostage to these feelings. It is bittersweet. 

The song is "The Promise". It is a duet with Maria Brink, the lead singer of In This Moment and Adrian Patrick, the lead singer of Otherwise. This is how Maria describes this song: 
"This song is about when you are madly in love with somebody, but you know that you’re dangerous for that person and vice versa. They’re dangerous for you even though you crave them. You want it more than anything, even though you know it will end badly." – Maria Brink

Now, here is the layout that was inspired from the pain, the memories, and the music:

Creating this layout truly helped heal me. With every brush stroke I let go of what I was holding on to. I used lyrics from the song and two quotes that touched my soul when I read them and was going through all of this. 

Here are some of the details:

I stamped music notes throughout the layout and added this little gem of a quote. 

Around the picture I have arrangements of flowers. I did a little inking and painting on a tag and added another quote that describes so perfectly the relationship I had with this person. I added the gears because even they too have a special meaning. 

The base around the photo are white rose petals that I dried out and stamped on and then covered in Ultra Thick Embossing Powder.

I chose certain lyrics from the song that just speak volumes.

Using a Prima Stencil and Thick Gesso I added cracks to the heart. 

When I finished this layout I felt a little lighter. I am glad I captured these moments for my scrapbook. Though it ended bad, we had some really good times and I learned so much about life, myself, and what I want and what I deserve. I accepted that he was dangerous for me and could never be what I deserve.
